Cold Brew Cup Of Cheer

December 21, 2016

This mug of liquid tranquility says “aloha” to holiday happiness in all the right ways. It’s a perfect blend of warm, complex flavors kissed by a little island sun to warm up those less-than-tropical nights the northern latitudes tend to see this time of year. Yet at its heart lies the simplicity we seek most during this busiest of seasons. Serve it at your next party or as a well-deserved reward for Santa & Mrs. Claus after all the elves have been put to bed.

Cold Brew Cup Of Cheer

  • 1 3/4 cups of Kohana Cold Brew Coffee Concentrate (We like to use our Organic French Vanilla!)
  • 2/3 cup of dark simple syrup
  • 1 1/2 cups of golden rum
  • 1/2 of a whole vanilla bean
  • Whipped cream or mini marshmallows
  • Cinnamon sticks or miniature candy canes

First, make some dark simple syrup by combining equal parts water and brown sugar, and simmering the mix over medium-low heat (keep stirring!) until all the sugar dissolves. Remove from the heat.

Mix the simple syrup with the coffee and the rum. Pour the result into a saucepan, add the vanilla bean, and heat on low until just warmed through. (Be careful not to let it start to simmer!) Serve in glass mugs with a shot of whipped cream and a cinnamon stick or a miniature candy cane.

Store any leftovers in the fridge. You can also serve it straight up as a cold brew coffee cordial. Or add a scoop of vanilla ice cream and turn it into dessert. Like so much of life, there’s no wrong path to take.
